Blue sapphires naturally occur in nature and it is common to heat (thermal enhancement) blue sapphires to improve their colour. The untreated ones are rare and command a premium. Blue sapphire occurs naturally in various localities around the world like Madagascar, Burma, Sri lanka (Ceylon), Thailand, USA, India (Kashmir), Cambodia, etc.
